Dr. Mulhausen's fifteen years of college have earned him a Doctorate in School Psychology (Ph.D.) from Kent State University, with a specialization in counseling consultation, marriage and family therapy, and clinical psychology, in addition to Post-Master's Certification in School Psychology from John Carroll University, and a Master's Degree in Education, a Master's Degree in Sociology, and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Case Western Reserve University. He is a Registered Addiction Specialist (R.A.S.). He formerly worked as school psychologist in public schools and in private practice, and is currently a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (N.C.S.P.) and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (P.C.). As an Approved and Certified Consultant of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, Dr. Mulhausen holds the distinction of being one of approximately 15 practitioners in the State of Ohio with this prestigious certification. He sees clients from across the country as well as all around Ohio.
Much of Dr. Mulhausen's work is centered around clinical hypnosis. The Ebers Papers, one of the oldest known human writings, cite the use of hypnosis in the treatment of human illness as early as 3000 B.C., although it wasn't until 1958 that the British Medical Association officially approved hypnosis as a form of treatment in all areas of medicine and surgery. Over the centuries, hypnosis has been dogged by many misconceptions, often due to its misrepresentation in books, movies, and plays, or at the hands of charlatans and quacks who practice privately, or utilize hypnosis as a form of entertainment. Hypnosis therefore has been associated with magic and the supernatural, although nothing could be further from the truth.
Hypnosis is a very natural state of consciousness that we've all experienced. When you need to awake at an unusual time and then wake up even before your alarm goes off, you've responded to a post hypnotic suggestion. When a mother sleeps soundly through a violent thunderstorm but is immediately alert when her small child moans, this also is the result of a post hypnotic suggestion. At these times, conscious critical thinking is temporarily suspended, yet is still available at a moment's notice should the need arise. A person in hypnosis remains aware of their surroundings, but is simply more receptive to acceptable suggestions. Should the hypnotist have a heart attack, or the patient hear the cry, "Fire!", or smell smoke, the patient immediately comes out of their hypnotic state. It's most important to realize that a hypnotized person will not do anything he or she would not do in the normal waking state nor will they reveal any deep, dark secrets.
Dr. Mulhausen utilizes the power of hypnotherapy to treat conditions as varied as sleep disorders, fears, health issues, test anxiety, and passing exams, in addition to AD/HD, goal setting, learning disabilities, pain, and teeth grinding. Two of the most common ways Dr. Mulhausen uses hypnosis are to aid in the cessation of smoking and to help his patients achieve their weight loss goals. Whereas supplements, patches, and shots designed to help stop smoking or suppress your appetite can have risky side affects, hypnosis is not only more effective, but totally risk free.
Dr. Mulhausen is a past President of the Cleveland Society of Clinical Hypnosis and has served as President 4408991680 and 4408991680 and Vice President 4408991680 of this professional organization, a component section of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Although he already holds an impressive list of degrees, he remains constantly involved in continuing education, attending training sessions, seminars, and workshops in clinical hypnosis held by The Cleveland Clinic, The Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, Cleveland Society of Clinical Hypnosis, Associate Trainers in Clinical Hypnosis, Ohio Institute of Medical hypnosis, Inc., Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, The Cincinnati Society of Clinical Hypnosis, The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, etc.
Dr. Mulhausen achieves such a high degree of success, usually in just one session, due to his thorough and unique approach to every problem and client he sees in his office. In terms of clinical hypnosis, for example, Dr. Mulhausen begins with a discussion of the client's problems and concerns, followed by a clinical history to find out where the client is coming from medically, socially, emotionally, and personality wise (so he can tailor his approach specifically to each and every client), a discussion and explanation of hypnosis, and how it is done, then answering any client questions or concerns, followed by the actual hypnosis session for the specific problem. The session ends with feedback and a lot of suggestions and handouts.
Every clinical hypnosis client is also shown self-hypnosis techniques so that they can reinforce, on a daily basis, the hypnosis that has occurred in Dr. Mulhausen's office. The client can us the self-hypnosis on a daily basis for other problems in their life, and can use self-hypnosis for the rest of their life. Dr. Mulhausen believes that learning and being able to use self-hypnosis alone is worth the cost of the session itself.
Dr. Mulhausen also has over thirty years experience working with children and adolescents. He previously taught school for fifteen years (every grade from kindergarten to twelfth grade) and has a Masters Degree in Education from Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Mulhausen worked for sixteen years as a School Psychologist in the public schools, had a license in School Psychology (private practice), and was a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (permitted Dr. Mulhausen to obtain a license in School Psychology in twenty-two states without taking an exam).

Counseling during your engagement can decrease the chance of divorce and set a precedent for how you cope with future problems. Receiving pre-marital counseling can help you reinforce healthy communication techniques and prevent destructive relationship patterns from developing.
Divorce counseling is often a useful means of ending a marriage peacefully. 50% of marriages end in divorce, 60% of second marriages, and 74% of third marriages.
In divorce counseling the initiator is provided a safe setting to tell the other spouse why his/her decision is irrevocable. And the spouse gets a safe place to tell the initiator his/her feelings about the divorce and the relationship.
Divorce counseling can help both parties accept responsibility and the finality of divorce without putting blame on each other for the divorce. In this manner, the couple can manage a cooperative and non-destructive divorce.
Individual counseling focuses on the well being of the individual which is whatever the individual's issues or problems are at that moment.
Counseling sessions will involve discussions and therapy about situations that either bother the client or have bothered the client in the past, how you feel or have felt during those situations, and what might have caused the client to feel such emotions.
You do not need a serious issue or problem to see a counselor. Individual counseling provides time, and opportunity, to discuss relationship issues, childhood issues, or problems surfacing due to employment, career, or personal life changes.
Dr. Mulhausen has been doing individual counseling with adults, adolescents and children for aver 40 years for a variety of issues and problems. Why struggle with personal, professional, or work problems when counseling can be an effective solution to your problems?
Dr. Mulhausen has been doing family counseling for over 37 years. If one family member has a problem (e.g. addiction, depression, or behavioral problems) it affects the whole family unit. Family counseling can bring peace and harmony to an otherwise disruptive, chaotic and troubled family. This type of counseling can also be very useful and effective for addressing family-wide problems such as conflicts between siblings, spouses, or parents and children.
The purpose of family counseling is to help family members improve communication, solve family problems, understand and handle specific family situations (e.g. death, serious physical or mental illness, or child and adolescent issues), and create a better functioning home environment.
Family counseling can be a source of support, encouragement and love but sometimes relationships within families are put under strain and family members feel isolated or overlooked.
Family counseling can help when siblings aren't getting along, or when parents and children are going through a divorce or separation.
Dr. Mulhausen practices mind-body medicine and believe that the mind can make the body sick and the body can make the mind sick. He provides cancer counseling before, during, and after treatment.
Dr. Mulhausen has been trained in individual and group cancer counseling by Exceptional Cancer Patients (Meadville, Pa.) and Bernie Siegel M.D. mind - body practitioner ex-surgeon and author of many books. Dr. Siegel has a national and international reputation in cancer counseling.
Dr. Mulhausen utilizes counseling, and especially clinical hypnosis, to help boost the immune system, deal with the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy, and assist with the emotional aspects of cancer (e.g. fear, worry, stress, anxiety, depression, etc.).
Dr. Mulhausen provides cancer counseling to cope with a cancer diagnosis, deal with emotional issues, work through difficult decisions, discover inner strengths and resources, explore ways to enjoy life while on this journey, ways to increase physical and emotional comfort, ways to reduce stress, etc.
Clinical Hypnosis is also very effective in dealing with the physical and emotional aspects of cancer and cancer treatment.
